Who do you find the least and the most sympathetic characters in Dubliners?

Site Visitor (not verified)

Two of our regular book group members did not show up at our book group meeting, hope it was not because of their encountering too many characters with flaws in them in Joyce's Dubliners.I loved how Joyce has portrayed Lenehan as watching Corley manipulate a young skivvy, the maid servant into stealing money from her employer while at the same time his realising that this is not a gallant act to follow .In my humble opinion, the first three characters in the first three stories are the least sympathetic though Joyce does not pass any judgment on them as they prey on children, like the priest in Sisters ,the pervert in An Encounter or the uncle in Araby who prevented his nephew from buying a gift from the bazaar.Happy reading everybody.
